Dorian Traube,a professor in the Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work at the University of Southern California,has been appointed as the next dean of the Brown School at Washington University in St.Louis,effective Aug.1,announced Chancellor Andrew D.Martin.Traube will succeed Tonya Edmond and Rodrigo Reis,professors and interim co-deans at the Brown School,who have served as interim deans since January 2022.“I’m very excited that Dorian Traube will be the next dean of the Brown School,”Martin said.“The Brown School is acenter of excellence for Washington University,and with an innovative leader like Dorian guiding the strategic vision,I’m confident we are well-positioned for even greater impact.”“I want to thank Tonya Edmond and Rodrigo Reis for their outstanding service as interim co-deans.Their leadership of the Brown School over the past year has continued to advance the school’s mission of putting evidence-based research into practice.”Traube has been on the USC faculty since 2006.Her research focuses on early child development,home visitation and telehealth solutions for families with young children.Traube developed Parents as Teachers Telebehavioral Health Clinic at USC,the first partnership of its kind between anational home visitation model and auniversity-based telehealth clinic.In doing so,she also established the first virtual home visitation program,offering areliable home visitation model via video conferencing technology.This program was chosen as aNamed Commitment by the Clinton Global Initiative and was selected the winner of the Gary Community Investment/OpenIDEO Early Childhood Innovation Prize.In three years,the program offered more than 1,000 home visits and trained 25 home visitors in virtual service delivery strategies.Traube’s research into the telehealth program laid the foundation for a$1.2 million effort,funded by the Heising-Simons Foundation,to make virtual home visitation available nationally during the COVID-19 crisis.“The Brown School is renowned for its strengths in research,education,and practice,”said Beverly Wendland,provost and executive vice chancellor for academic affairs.“Dorian’s scholarship and demonstrated leadership position her well to lead one of the finest schools of social work in the country.”“We have atremendous history of achievement in social work,and,as we lay the foundation for anew era of public health at WashU,I look forward to partnering with Dorian and all our school deans in our shared pursuit of academic distinction.”Traube’s research agenda focuses on the utilization of technological solutions to provide early childhood health,education and parent support services.She has expertise in children’s mental health,child maltreatment prevention,family support interventions and home visitation.Her research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health(NIH),the Parsons Foundation,Queenscare Foundation,and the Overdeck Foundation.Traube is on the California Emerging Technology Fund board of directors.“It’s an honor and aprivilege to be named dean of the Brown School at Washington University,”Traube said.“The Brown School’s rich tradition of excellence in social work and public health,gifted students,innovative faculty,and the impact of their collaborative,problem-solving research and scholarship is evident locally,regionally and globally.I’m eager to partner with them,as together we strive to solve society’s greatest challenges.”Traube earned master’s and doctoral degrees in social work from Columbia University and is alicensed clinical social worker in California and New York. 查看详细>>

Ed Soltero has been appointed assistant vice chancellor and university architect for Facilities Planning&Management at Washington University in St.Louis,announced Shantay Bolton,executive vice chancellor for administration and chief administrative officer.In his position,Soltero will lead the planning and design team and manage initiatives for long-term campus planning,collaborate with the university’s capital projects team and provide leadership as the university works to reach infrastructure-related sustainability goals.His appointment begins April 1.Soltero joins WashU from Arizona State University,where he served as assistant vice president and university architect for the Office of the University Architect for 11 years,after previously having worked at the University of Texas at El Paso.In all,Soltero brings more than 37 years of experience to WashU.He led construction and design projects,prepared three campus master plan updates and was involved in Arizona State’s comprehensive infrastructure renewal initiative.Soltero also has experience in health care and hospital design,real estate transactions and facilities operations.Soltero earned abachelor’s degree in architecture design from the University of Houston;master’s degrees from the University of Texas at El Paso and the NewSchool of Architecture and Design;and adoctorate in environmental design from Arizona State University.Soltero is afellow of the American Institute of Architects and earned aLEED AP BD+C credential.Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design(LEED)encourages sustainability throughout the design and construction process;dozens of WashU spaces are LEED certified,with eight earning the highest level,platinum.“Ed has arecord of sustainable and creative architecture design,leading large complex projects across various industries,”Bolton said.“As apractitioner and educator,Ed’s leadership will be invaluable to ensuring we continue to make ameaningful impact on how students and the campus community experience our physical assets,both now and well into the future.” 查看详细>>

Peter Hook has been appointed director and associate dean of the Law Library at the Washington University School of Law in St.Louis.Hook,will begin his position July 1.He has been at the University of Notre Dame Law School,where he served as associate director for faculty services,instruction and outreach.He succeeds Joyce McCray Pearson,who retired in spring 2022 after serving in the role for seven years.“I am very pleased to welcome Peter as our new director and associate dean of the Law Library,”said Russell Osgood,dean of the School of Law.“A robust,high-functioning law library is central to the success of any law school.I look forward to working with Peter to ensure that the library helps our faculty and students achieve their goals.”Hook will oversee the Law Library,its expert librarians and library staff.“I am excited to assume the helm of an already great law library and will work tirelessly toward making it an even better one,”Hook said.“Great libraries are made by great people—people with the expertise,service ethic,drive and ability to not only be excellent stewards of content,but to actively connect students and faculty with the best informational resources possible.Teaching is also apassion of mine,and Iwelcome the opportunity to teach WashU’s smart,diverse students.” 查看详细>>

Washington University in St.Louis’strategic vision,“Here and Next,”is moving into its next phase:implementation planning.“I am so grateful for the time,effort and creativity that our community has put into this process,”Provost Beverly Wendland said.“Now,it’s time to translate our vision into action.I am thrilled that Mary McKay,vice provost of interdisciplinary initiatives,will chair our implementation planning process.Mary’s collaborative,people-centric approach will ensure that we continue to reflect the perspectives of all members of our community as we build out our shared vision and action plan.”The strategic vision represents the perspectives of over 2,000 people,which were translated into an articulation of WashU’s future,“Here and Next.”When“Here and Next”officially launched,thousands of WashU students,faculty and staff gathered at campus events to celebrate,and more than 3,000 people participated in the“Here and Next”event series.“The weeks since the launch of‘Here and Next’have been the most exciting in my career,”Wendland said.“I feel so fortunate to have connected with so many members of our WashU community.So many tell me how proud they are of WashU and the lives we change through our work.And so many believe that we have the potential,and the obligation,to drive even greater impact.With‘Here and Next,’we can do just that.”Wendland,who led the strategic planning process,will continue as the executive sponsor for implementation planning.“Here and Next”has moved forward by establishing 17 committees,composed of more than 140 individuals from all eight schools,who will offer their expertise and perspectives to begin turning the vision into measurable progress.In addition to the initiatives led by the newly formed committees and their faculty chairs,Vice Provosts Jen Smith,Kia Caldwell and Vijay Ramani are making progress in their respective areas of undergraduate education,faculty development and doctoral education.Executive Vice Chancellor Shantay Bolton,Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Anna Gonzalez and University College Dean Sean Armstrong will drive forward initiatives in staff and operations,the student experience,and University College,respectively.“This next phase of planning and implementation requires an influx of new perspectives,expertise and leadership,”McKay said.“We are so fortunate to have acommunity poised to lend their time and talents to this endeavor.Since our launch,we were quick to stand up acomprehensive infrastructure of committees,and,already,these groups have gotten to work hosting their own kickoff meetings,laying the foundations that will inform their respective missions and structures,and defining the specific goals that will guide achievement milestones.While complex,this work is incredibly exciting,and it has been atrue privilege to work alongside the colleagues who,by contributing their own unique strengths,will bring the‘Here and Next’vision to life one accomplishment at atime.”The Provost’s Office implementation team also is supporting each initiative across the research,people and community pillars of the plan through evaluation,project management and communication.Key university partners are contributing to the effort,including Finance,Advancement,and University Marketing and Communications.To ensure calibration between committees and integration with the broader university environment,a“Here and Next”Leadership Committee has been formed,with McKay serving as chair.Nancy Mueller,associate provost for institutional effectiveness,and Joe MacDonald,assistant provost for strategy and communication,will serve as co-leads to support McKay.“It’s been an honor to support Provost Wendland in her leadership of our strategic planning,”said MacDonald,who served as the executive project director for the planning phase.“I’ve seen firsthand how tireless the provost has been in aiming to channel the aspirations of our community into ashared vision.People matter—faculty,staff,students,our community.Vice Provost McKay understands this like few do,and I’m eager to collaborate with her in this next phase.”Whether through large-scale events,lectures or committee meetings,“Here and Next”already has demonstrated its ability to bring the WashU community together.As the strategic vision progresses,leaders will continue to leverage“Here and Next”and connect the community for conversation,collaboration and action. 查看详细>>

Sheryl Mauricio,associate dean for student conduct and community standards,has been promoted to associate vice chancellor for student affairs,announced Anna Gonzalez,vice chancellor for student affairs at Washington University in St.Louis.In her new role,Mauricio will oversee the Office of Residential Life,Summer Program and Conference Services and the newly named Office of Student Transitions&Family Programs,formerly the First Year Center.Mauricio had served as interim executive director of residential life during the 2020-21 academic year,implementing new safety practices and policies to keep students and staff safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.“I look forward to Sheryl officially beginning her role as associate vice chancellor for student affairs,”Gonzalez said.“Sheryl is aproven student affairs professional,bringing astrong background in conduct,housing and residential life to our senior leadership team and the overall division.Most importantly,Sheryl is apeople-focused leader who will use her experience to support the outstanding teams in Residential Life,Summer Program and Conference Services and Student Transitions&Family Programs.”Mauricio succeeds Kawanna Leggett,who was appointed senior vice president for student affairs at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.Mauricio said her first priority will be to check in on professional and student staff members who have worked hard and long hours during the pandemic.“We have expected so much during the past two years,and pandemic fatigue is still with us,”Mauricio said.“One of my first questions will be‘How are we attending to our staff?’We need to focus on our people,all of whom are incredibly talented.Then we can bring that excitement to the student experience.”Mauricio also will help implement anumber of the wellness,sustainability and undergraduate education measures outlined in the university’s new strategic plan.In addition,Mauricio plans to introduce new assessment strategies.Mauricio joined the university in 2018.She said her experience in student conduct informs her approach to residential life.“To me,student conduct is about creating accountability to community,”Mauricio said.“When students first come to us,I would like to have those conversations early about what it means to be part of WashU and how we can bring asense of grace,kindness and respect to our community.”Previously,Mauricio served as an associate dean at Cornell University.In addition,she has worked at Michigan State University and the University of Southern California. 查看详细>>
