12月16日,北京大学材料科学与工程学院和北京汽车博物馆合作签约仪式暨“汽车大家说”主题活动在北京汽车博物馆举行。北京汽车博物馆党组书记、馆长乔晓鹏,党组成员、副馆长王慧平,北京大学材料科学与工程学院院长邹如强、党委书记李明、党委副书记张婧,以及北京十二中师生代表共计70余人参加活动。馆校合作,共建科普新高地在签约仪式上,乔晓鹏表示,博物馆和高校都担负着为党育人、为国育才的初心使命,汽博馆和北大材料学院携手合作,围绕立德树人根本任务,共建“北京大学思政实践课基地”“科普实验室”,依托“党建交流平台、展览策划平台、科学普及平台、志愿服务平台”四大共建载体,基于材料学院最新的科研成果共同做好新域新质科普,搭建起连接行业与公众的桥梁,更好地服务社会发展。李明表示,双方合作深度融合北大材料学院的学科优势和汽博馆公共文化平台优势,在理论学习、党建交流、科学普及、志愿服务等方面开展共建合作,以材料学科赋能汽车展示和文化传播,以汽车载体助力材料学科人才培养,推动材料学科科学知识普及与科学精神的传播,携手汽博馆共建科普普及的新高地,为实现高水平科技自立自强作出更大贡献。在邹如强、李明和乔晓鹏的见证下,王慧平与张婧签署《北京汽车博物馆-北京大学材料科学与工程学院合作协议书》。现场还进行了“北京大学思政实践课基地”授牌、汽博馆与北大材料学院共建“科普实验室”揭牌。 查看详细>>

From Oct.23-24,a delegation consisting of 21 MIT students,one MIT postdoc,and four students from the University of the District of Columbia met in Washington for the MIT Science Policy Initiative’s Executive Visit Days(ExVD).Now in its 13th cycle,this trip offers aplatform where university students and young researchers can connect with officials and scientists from different federal agencies,discuss issues related to science and technology policy,and learn about the role the federal government plays in addressing these issues.The delegation visited seven different agencies,as well as the MIT Washington Office,where the group held virtual calls with personnel from the National Institutes of Health and the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health.Visits to the National Science Foundation,Department of Energy Office of Science,White House Office of Science and Technology Policy(OSTP),Environmental Protection Agency,and National Aeronautics and Space Administration then followed over the course of two days.The series of meetings,facilitated by the MIT Science Policy Initiative(SPI),offered awindow into the current activities of each agency and how individuals can engage with science policy through the lens of each particular agency.The Science Policy Initiative is an organization of students and postdocs whose core goal is not only to grow interest at MIT and in the community at large in science policy,but also to facilitate the exchange of ideas between the policymakers of today and the scientists of tomorrow.One of the various trips organized by SPI every year,ExVD allows students to gain insight into the work of federal agencies,while also offering the chance to meet with representatives from these agencies,many of whom are MIT alumni,and discuss their paths toward careers in science policy.Additionally,ExVD serves as an opportunity for participants to network with students,postdocs,and professionals outside of their fields but united by common interests in science policy.“I believe it is critical for students with vital technical expertise to gain asense of the realities of policymaking,”says Phillip Christoffersen,a PhD student researching AI in MIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and SPI ExVD 2023 chair.“Due to the many complexities of modern life,we are simultaneously reaching tipping points in many fields—AI,climate change,biotechnology,among many others.For this reason,science and science policy must increasingly move in lockstep for the good of society,and it falls on us as scientists-in-training to make that happen.”One example of the delegation’s visits was to the White House OSTP,located directly next to the West Wing at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building.This special agency of fewer than 200 staff,most of whom are either in rotation or on loan from other federal agencies,directly reports to the president on all matters related to science and policy.The atmosphere at the White House complex and the exchanges with Kei Koizumi,principal deputy director for policy at OSTP,deeply inspired the students and showcased the vast impact science can have on federal policy.The overall sentiment among the ExVD participants has been that of reborn motivation,having become inspired to participate in policy matters,either as aportion of their graduate research or in their future career.The ExVD 2023 cohort is thankful to the MIT Washington office,whose generous support was crucial to making this trip areality.Furthermore,the delegation thanks the MIT Science Policy Initiative’s leadership team for organizing this trip,enabling an extremely meaningful experience. 查看详细>>

The Discovery Research Platforms(DRPs)will be home to transformative research environments that empower researchers to overcome specific barriers holding back progress in their fields of research.They aim to accelerate research for the benefit of the wider global research community,with researchers and teams developing new tools,knowledge and capabilities to help unlock new findings about life,health and wellbeing.Michael Dunn,Director of Discovery Research at Wellcome,said:“Discovery research is essential to advancing our ability to understand and improve health.But in addition to researchers’bold and imaginative ideas,we know that new tools,methods and capabilities are also needed to unlock new avenues of research that can disrupt and transform the research landscape globally.”The two Cambridge DRPs,which will receive£9million each over seven years,are:The Discovery Research Platform for Tissue Scale Biology–which seeks to move stem cell biology to the tissue and organ scale of research,creating anew network of local and international researchers to enable strategies that capitalise on new in vitro models to develop better treatments for human patients.Professor Bertie Gottgens,Director of the Wellcome-MRC Cambridge Stem Cell Institute,said:"I am delighted that Wellcome will support our ambition to build anew Discovery Research Platform to provide international leadership for Tissue Scale Biology.“Our vision for this platform resulted from extensive discussions across the wider Cambridge Stem Cell community and the formation of ahighly interdisciplinary team connecting the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute with the West Cambridge Engineering/Technology community.It also incorporates exciting new training partnerships with Anglia Ruskin University and the Cambridge Academy for Science and Technology,to help us fill critical skills shortages and widen participation across Cambridge."The Discovery Research Platform for Integrating Metabolic and Endocrine Science–which aims to address practical barriers preventing data integration across metabolic and endocrine science,investigate how hormones control metabolic processes and how these can go wrong in disorders such as obesity,diabetes and cachexia,and create tools to facilitate global access to this data.The Platform will encompass research on molecules,cells and model organisms but will have amajor focus on discovery science in human participants,patients and populations.The funding will sustain key technological platforms and the highly-trained staff needed to support these.It will also underpin partnerships with research centres across the UK as well as in Germany and Denmark,all of which will provide new opportunities for training.The Platform will have amajor focus on the broad dissemination of integrated data and the creation of tools to facilitate access by the global community.The award will also accelerate the team’s drive to make transformational changes to research culture with new initiatives in widening access and open science reinforced by anew programme of research into the culture of biomedical science,in collaboration with the Cambridge Judge Business School.Professor Sir Stephen O’Rahilly,Co-Director at the Wellcome-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science and Director of the MRC Metabolic Diseases Unit,said:“Wellcome’s support of our scientists’research in metabolism and endocrinology,and of the technological platforms that underpin it,has been critically important to the discoveries we have made and the translation of that research into improvements in health.This new award will allow us to build on those achievements and deliver more ground-breaking science in amanner that emphasises openness,diversity and aspirit of collaboration.” 查看详细>>

Columbia University has announced that it will launch anew Columbia Global Center in Tel Aviv to build on its existing collaborations in Israel and facilitate further engagement and partnerships.“The Global Centers program was created 14 years ago to create vibrant hubs of activity in intellectually rich and often challenging locations,”said Columbia President Lee C.Bollinger.“The program has become foundational to Columbia’s mission to engage with the world,offering opportunities for our faculty,students,and alumni to engage fully with colleagues and communities across the globe.”The new Center will join anetwork of centers in Amman,Athens,Beijing,Istanbul,Mumbai,Nairobi,Paris,Rio de Janeiro,Santiago,and Tunis.Similar to other centers,the Tel Aviv Center will be ahub and gathering place,enabling Columbia to connect with individuals and institutions,as well as with the alumni community in Israel,drawing them closer to the ongoing life of the University.The Center will leverage Columbia’s expertise and experience and link faculty and students to experts and resources in Israel and the wider region.Among others,the Center’s initial priorities will include climate change,technology and entrepreneurship,and aspects of arts and the humanities,as well as biological science,public health,and medicine.An additional priority will be to offer collaborative learning and research opportunities,working with peers,for Columbia undergraduates and graduate students.“I am deeply proud of how the Columbia Global Centers have evolved and grown,each with its own distinctive features and priorities and together as avibrant network advancing Columbia’s mission and values,”said Bollinger.“It is more important than ever for Columbia to continue seeking to advance inquiry and learning across borders.I look forward with anticipation as the Tel Aviv Center takes shape in the months and years ahead as part of our broader Columbia Global efforts.” 查看详细>>

11月16日上午,安徽省委政法委、中国科学技术大学创新发展推进会暨安徽省社会稳定风险评估促进会第一次会员大会召开。省委常委、政法委书记张韵声,校党委书记舒歌群出席会议并致辞,会议由校党委常委、总会计师黄素芳主持。省委政法委常务副书记张明、二级巡视员郑重,省民政厅副厅长张振粤,公共事务学院执行院长魏玖长、党委书记丁望斌和学校相关职能部门负责人等参加大会。魏玖长教授当选为促进会常务副会长并做大会表态发言。会上,在张韵声、舒歌群等领导同志的见证下,张明、黄素芳分别代表安徽省委政法委和中国科学技术大学签署了《关于政研融合创新发展的战略合作协议》。此次共有15家单位作为促进会成立的发起单位,我校为主发起单位,中徽建技术有限公司等14家单位为一般发起单位,首批会员共有133个。“之所以选择中科大作为主发起单位,不仅因为中科大是全国重点大学,也是因为中科大公共事务学院有相关研究领域和较好理论基础。”郑重介绍。与会代表现场审议通过《促进会章程》《促进会第一次会员大会选举办法》《促进会会费标准和管理办法》和监票人、计票人名单,选举产生促进会第一届会长、副会长、秘书长、理事会和监事会成员。张明当选为第一届会长。促进会将在推动社会力量参与,发展壮大专业机构、社会组织等风险评估第三方力量和建立行业自治自律的市场化运作管理模式上发力,建立健全行业自律和约束机制,为社会组织健康发展作出示范。党的二十大报告中明确,“我国发展进入战略机遇和风险挑战并存、不确定难预料因素增多的时期,各种‘黑天鹅’‘灰犀牛’事件随时可能发生。我们必须增强忧患意识,坚持底线思维,做到居安思危、未雨绸缪……”此次省委政法委和我校为促进在政策研究、科技赋能与创新发展方面的交流与合作,围绕社会风险管理、社会综合治理等领域建立战略合作关系,是对教育、科技、人才“三位一体”发展新要求的积极落实。由双方共同推动成立的安徽省社会稳定风险评估促进会,将为推进新时代“全面推进依法治国”的重大战略举措提供智力支持,为维护社会安全稳定、贯彻总体国家安全观贡献科学参考,以新安全格局保障新发展格局。我校公共事务学院作为双方战略合作以及省稳评促进会工作开展的具体落实单位,是学校为实施“双一流”建设发展战略,提升高校服务社会功能,促进经济社会发展和公共管理创新而设立的新型特色学院。公共事务学院将积极加强在社会风险治理领域的科学研究和人才培养,联合各会员单位和专家会员,加强对社会稳定风险评估工作机制与流程的研究与规范,为打造安徽稳评工作品牌,全力推动安徽省社会风险稳定评估促进会的高质量发展。 查看详细>>

2022年9月23日上午,南方科技大学与光明区人民政府共建“高等研究院”(以下简称“高研院”)签约仪式在南科大会议中心举行。光明区委书记蔡颖,区委常委、常务副区长姚高科;南方科技大学校长、中国科学院院士薛其坤,副校长、理学院院长、中国科学院院士杨学明等出席活动。蔡颖表示,光明科学城建设将按照深圳市委统一部署要求,以重大科技基础设施赋能产业发展,聚焦“8+5”产业集群布局科研经济新赛道。蔡颖强调,光明科学城建设将聚焦创新链与产业链深度融合,以源头创新为引领,以成果产业化为特色,以政府和市场共同驱动为支撑,不断放大科学赋能产业、产业激发创新的“蝴蝶效应”。蔡颖希望,光明区携手南科大共建高等研究院,叠加双方优势,构筑集聚科学家、企业家、投资人、创业者的创新共同体。薛其坤表示,今年2月,南科大正式进入国家“双一流”高校建设行列。大学与光明区共建高等研究院,是推动学校“双一流”高质量发展的又一重要举措。薛其坤强调,高研院将集中大学优势科研力量,瞄准前沿科学问题,聚焦原始创新,以产出重大科研成果为核心目标,配合光明科学城大科学装置的建设和运营,积极推动相关科技成果的转移转化。薛其坤希望高研院紧密围绕光明区的发展特点及规划布局,按照“校地合作、共同发展”原则,创新践行科研经济,支撑产业跃升发展。汇聚优质资源强强联合聚焦原始创新近年来,深圳市提出发展壮大20个战略性新兴产业集群、前瞻布局8个未来产业的产业集群政策和发展思路,构建更加完善的生态链,打造规模效应,推动产业集群式创新发展。光明区正在加快建设大湾区综合性国家科学中心先行启动区,全力推进原始创新策源地、科研经济先行地、创新人才集聚地建设,加快打造世界一流科学城和深圳北部中心。作为诞生于深圳的新型研究型大学,南科大深度根植于深圳,与经济特区和粤港澳大湾区发展同频共振。学校以“国家部署支撑发展战略”与“重大战略引领计划”为指引,充分发挥学校科技创新辐射带动作用,完善重点区域合作布局。坚持面向国家战略需求、面向经济主战场、面向世界前沿科技,丰富社会服务内容、打造创新服务平台、构建高效合作机制。根据双方合作协议,双方将围绕光明科学城建设规划,充分融合双方资源优势,在体制机制方面,尤其是原始创新、科技成果转化等方面积极探索,践行科研经济理念,支撑综合性国家科学中心的建设。 查看详细>>
